Top 10 Movies of 2019

In few days the final year of this decade is going to end. 2019 has been a really great year for Movie geeks . The battle of Comic book movies between Endgame and Joker or the return of the Great Martin Scorsesse , he even got Joe Pesci and convinced him to get back on screen from his retirement.

Whether it was The Robert Pattinson and William Dafoe going crazy in the lighthouse, Joaquin Phoenix dancing down the stairs Embracing himself turning into Joker or Robert di nero shooting the batshit out of people in Irishman .

 I will show you the Top 10 Movies of 2019 . Beautiful and Artistic Cinema was created this year ,it was hard to put in Top 10 for this year. But the list does the justice I think. A Decade full of Incredible Cinema and 2019 was like the cherry on the cake. Here is my countdown of  Top 10 Movies in 2019. “Spoiler Free”

10. Ad Astra .

Cast : Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv tyler, Donald Sutherland, Loren Dean

There have been plenty of Space Films like Gravity, Martian, Intersteller etc . Intersteller has been the top one in these in my opinion. The only one who really comes close is James Gray’s Ad Astra.

Ad Astra is a popular Latin phrase meaning "through hardships to the stars". The phrase is one of the many Latin sayings that use the expression ad astra "to the stars".

Brad Pitt carries the weight of the film and delivers the greatest performance of his career after The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Throughout the film James Gray lingers his camera around Pitts face and He does total justice with his subtle performace. It is surely one of Top 10 Movies of 2019 

Ad Astra is about a Man in search of his Estranged Father who is somewhere stuck in Space. During the final moments The movie creeps inside your soul and tests your emotional power. Ad Astra is an experience of the Highest Order one needs to be Patient with this film and let it consume you while you watch it.

 9. Once Upon a Time In Hollywood

Cast : Leonardo DiCaprio , Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie

When Tarantino returned, he returned with a bang and with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood he has cemented himself as one of the greatest directors of all time. Tarantino’s style of Movies is different than others. He said he has absorbed from every movie he has watched when he worked at a local Movie DVD Store. As Tarantino says “I didn’t go to Movie School, I Went to Movies”.

Once Upon a Time In Hollywood is a movie about a journey of an actor Rick Dalton played by Leonardo DiCaprio who gained fortune by starring in 1950’s television western. Rick finds it tough to find work in Hollywood later. He is always seen spending time with his long time best friend and his stunt double Cliff Booth played by Brad Pitt. Sharon Tate played by Margot Robbie happens to stay nextdoor by Rick with Roman Polanski the Filmmaker. Tarantino is a genius and he said that this is his last Movie . It is one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 

It is a Classic Taratino Fashioned movie with some Golden age homages. The soundtrack does justice to the movie which matches the screenplay which is incredible in its own way ,The screenplay Is great a cast full of Talent . With this Tarantino shows his  love for cinema and proves once again that he is indeed a Maverick of Cinema.

8. 1917

Cast : Dean Charles Chapman, George Mackay, Richard Madden, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott, Colin Firth

1917 is a war Movie based on two young British Soldiers embark on a dangerous mission from a certain doom during WW 1 . The movie has One shot of a battle which is following two british soldiers during WW1 on a dangerous mission through the No Man’s Land. 

The work of the Legendary Cinematographer Roger Deakins makes this Movie a Wartime Masterpiece. It is without a doubt one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

The Movie 1917 is a Marvel of a movie not just for the cinematography of Deakins but also for the Amazing sound effects, Visual Scenes, and the genius of Lee Smith who has done the editing top notch ,without which the “one take” would have broken inbetween. The Performances of Mackay and Chapman are brilliant in this film. They have portrayed their characters well and done justice to the roles and the Movie.

 7. Jojo the Rabbit

Jojo the Rabbit is based on Christine Leunens book Caging Skies. The movie is wrapped around a 10 year old boy who lives in the Nazi Gemany during the latter parts of WW2 ,who makes imaginary friends.

 Like Adolf Hitler played by the director Taika Waititi himself. This isn’t  A Hitler Movie ,this is about Jojo’s mother which is played by Scarlett Johansson who is a single parent is hiding a Brave little Jewish Girl in their attic. The movie has a great cinematography and screenplay. Taika Waititi’s direction bagged him numerous awards in the Film Festivals. Thats why it is included in Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

6. Uncut Gems

Cast : Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel , Kevin Garnett, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox.

Uncut Gems Is a American Crime Thriller directed by the Safdie’s . The film has a dark screenplay to it written by Ronald Bronstein. After one after one flops in his career  , Adam Sandler was an actor of the past . There was no way he was coming back to the top ranks again. 

But Adam Sandlers performance as a charismatic new York city’s jeweller who is always on the lookout for his big score puts him back into the top bracket of Top Actors in 2019. It’s nothing like Adam Sandler has done before . This makes it one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

Howard played by Adam Sandler must balance and perform his act ,his business of jewellery and family while he tries to solve and win the bet which can lead to his downfall of his lifetime.

5. Marriage Story

The Movie Marriage Story is a true description of a married life is all about . The good parts and the Bad parts. All marriage face such situations at one point in their lives , where the husband and wife just let ou the shit they’ve been ignoring for long the betterment of the marriage and their kids.

Marriage story is one of the most truthful movies that I have watched about marriage ,its just like Blue Valentine which is raw and shows what real marriage Is all about and that its not always like they show it in the movies. The Rawness of the movie makes it one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

This shows the struggle of a man and woman who are going to separate despite having a child . The Dialogues written in this movie are raw and performed really well by Both Adam and Scarlett. They both have done justice to their roles. Laura derns performance pops out . And the legendary Ray Liotta , the Goodfela plays a lawyer and does it in his own incredible manner and style. Noah Baumbuch has done a great job catching the perfect shots and emotional performances of both the lead actors. This is one of the greatest films of 2019.

4. Parasite

Parasite is a Korean Movie which has caused a lot of havoc in the movie industry in 2019. This movie is bound to be a classic in coming years. The narrative is shown that the upper and lower classes of the societies conflicts. From a directing point of view Bong Joon-hoo has done a marvellous job . 

The score composed by Jeong Jae-il has done justice to the scenes throughout the movie . It has [erfectly placed in the movie scene to scene.The cinematography is metaphorical and gorgeous. It stands out throughout the movie. This Korean Marvel is one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

There are some scenes and sequences in the movie which will get you on the edges of your seats .The movies is satirical,emotional,beautiful, thrilling and haunting. Its easily one of the Top 5 Movies of 2019.

3. The Irishman

The Irishaman is based on the book written by Charles Brandt. “I Heard You Paint Houses “ . This movie marks the return of the legendary Martin Scorsesse !!

 Getting Robert de niro and Al Pacino together in a movie is something not everyone can achieve . Martin and Robert tried really hard to convince Joe Pesci to come out of retirement and act . The idea of watching a movie stuffed with these four just screamed genius and I couldn’t wait to watch it since it was announced.  It is surely one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 .

The Movie is about a truck driver named Frank who gets involved in crime and becomes a top hitman later he goes on to work for Jimmy Hoffa played by Al Pacino. Both of the Godfathers have done justice to their roles. Joe pesci’s return has been accepted well by the critics and audience. This is a really long movie which has a runtime of 3 and half hour ,but its well crafted scene to scene. And who is going to complain because of long Martin Scorsesse Movie . It’s a Top 3 In 2019, A Movie which screams Genius which is the art of Scorsesse .

2. Lighthouse

Cast : Robert Pattinson , Willem Dafoe

The Lighthouse is a movie based on two Lighthouse keepers who try to maintain their sanity while they are stuck on an island in the 1980’s . Robert Eggers directs the Gripping and Haunting tale of these Two Lighthouse keepers on a 35mm Black and White film.

 This just made the movie much better and suspenseful. It felt like a real 1980’s Movie esperience and the performances of Robert playing Winslow and Willem playing Thomas are truly remarkable and magnificient. It Takes a great actor to make the audience feel the loneliness he’s feeling and the tension between them this is what Egger does. He portrays the emotions of the actors perfectly and captures them. The two drunks stuck in going crazy and the never ending storm , tests the sanity of both of the characters.

The Story will be stuck with you for a long time and you will love the experience of watching it in theatres. It is easily one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 . I look forward to watching it again.   

1. Joker

Cast : Joaquin Phoenix, Robert de niro, Zazzie Beetz , Frances Conroy

Joker is a movie about a failed Comedian, and the one who works as a Clown who is forever alone in the city of Gotham. The Gotham keeps pushing Arthur played by Joaquin to get his bad side out. He is isolated and bullied throughout the film. 

He feels totally left out by the Society and it gets to his head when he’s very own favorite Tv Host Murray played by De Niro makes fun of him by playing his clip on his show and putting him down infront of people. Arthur suffers form PLC which makes him laugh really hard to an extent which makes him suffer, this causes him not being able to perform his jokes onstage and gets booed off. The Scene already won the Oscar for me was when Arthur shoots 3 guys who were bullying him in the subway he runs into a toilet and his body starts to flow and dance on its own. He embrace himself and the dance solidifies that . The Music by Hildur is Oscar worthy this puts a shadow on Arthur. During the scene I felt sad because I realized that Arthur was dying right there and Joker was rising. The Bathroom scenes is one of the darkest,surreal scenes ever made,yet one of the most beautiful too. It’s a masterpiece. It is Clearly one of the Top 10 Movies of 2019 , No It's the best one.

A man you took pity on and wanted to give a hug to slowly starts to become one of the most evil monsters in fiction. When this happened the whole theatre was quiet . Because No one had ever seen a stripped down vulnerable emotion on display like this in  forever . This movie will stay with me for a long time. If Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t win the Oscar we riot in our Clown Masks.

This is the best Movie of 2019. Everyone involved in this movie has done a marvellous job. The Cinematography and colors of Lawrence Sher gives us a Taxi Driver, King of Comedy effect to the Movie. Todd Philipps has given birth to a Masterpiece.
